The next generation of Kardashian-Jenners Kendall and Kylie Jenner are stepping into the spotlight and Joico Celebrity Stylist George Papanikolas recently upgraded their haircolor. Kylie opted for a dramatic, deep brunette, while her sister Kendall received a subtle balayage highlight enhancement for her natural medium-brown hue. Here, George shares his color strategies.
The request was BLACK hair, but George knows better! Black color tends to look too dull and inky, he explains. Plus I know how young girls arethey change their haircolor all the time. So I decided to make life easy for myself when she comes back.
So George mixed up the following dark brown Joico formula:
Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome Demi-Permanent Color ¾ N4 + ¼ N1 + Activator.
He applied the formula to Kylies Level 5 hair, roots to ends and processed for 20 minutes.
This dark brown formula looks black, he explains, but its still shiny and reflective.
The teen asked George for a subtle upgrade of her natural Level 5.5 medium brown, virgin color.
He created balayage highlights with Joico K-PAK VeroLight Lightener + 40-volume developer. He applied the highlight formula in a v-shapefiner at the roots and midlengths and heavier at the ends–and lifted the color to golden blonde. (Its best not to lift brunette hair super light, he notes.) Then he glossed all strands roots to ends for five minutes at the bowl with Joico Vero K-PAK Chrome Demi-Permanent Color ½ A7 + ½ A9 + Activator to neutralize any warmth.
