The 13th Annual BTC.com Stylist Choice Awards took place in March of this year. Joico K-PAK Reconstructor won the “Best Deep or Restorative Conditioner/Treatment”, while ISO Options won the “Best Chemical Texturizing Product/System.”
Joico International Vero K-PAK Artistic Director, Sue Pemberton, answers several tough color questions. The first: “How else can I use color to turn back the hands of time?” Sue says, “I’m a big believer that you should never lift or deposit the color around the client’s face more than two levels.” Another question: “I can cover my clients’ gray all day long, but how do I do it so their hair also has natural-looking dimension?” Sue Pemberton’s strategy would be to create a dimensional highlight effect with back to back foils. Applying the lightest shade to the top, the medium shade in the center panel, and the darkest shade to the bottom panel. “How can I create the most awesome, killer, cool blondes in town?” Sue’s strategy involves a combination of lightener and high lift color. “Many stylists don’t care to use strictly bleach, especially on the scalp. I like to create highlights all over the head with a combination of lightener and high light.” Have a client who disastrously used a DIY ombre kit? Sue responds by saying, “this is a great opportunity! Correcting this situation is all about blending and toning.”
Joico International Artistic Directors Damien Carney and Sue Pemberton create the vortex reverse ombre for this year’s TurnStyle trend collection. “I pivoted from a central point around the fringe and side area taking back-to-back horizontal-diagonal slice partings,” Sue explained.
