Refinery29 – JULY 2013

July 19, 2013

Radiant golden blonde hair is always a do rather than a don’t in the summer, and a sun-kissed finish is universally flatter on almost all hair color and skin tones. Refinery29 rounded up five celebs and asked Joico Celebrity Colorist George Papanikolas how to recreate the look.

Ciara has a baby blonde color, with more concentration on the ends. Tell your stylist to put a focus on the ends, which will give your look a brighter finish.”Papanikolas suggests “using a deep penetrating treatment, like Joico K-PAK Deep Penetrating Reconstructor, to prepare your hair. It’s also best to do this dye job in stages, to keep your hair in the best condition.”

Elizabeth Olsen is working a honey blonde hue,” explains Papanikolas. “It’s important that you tell your stylist to lighten your base, which will create an overall warmer golden effect on your style. Keep in mind that going lighter causes a lot of stress on your locks, so be sure to follow-up with leave-in conditioners and moisturizers, which prevent breakage and soften your hair.”

Sarah Jessica Parker tweaks her signature look. “Notice how her color gets heavier around her hairline,” says Papanikolas. “This gives an overall brightening effect, attracting light and creating a youthful glow around your features — it’s the best way to brighten your complexion. For brunettes, adding chunky blonde pieces is also a flattering way to add an instant pop of lightness to your ‘do.”

“The key to getting Sophia Coppola‘s look is requesting modern chunky highlights that are more fine at the root, and gradually get thicker and heavier towards the mid-shaft and ends,” says Papanikolas.

To recreate Jamie Chung‘s look, Papanikolas suggests “requesting dark-blonde or caramel highlights. Going lighter creates a strong contrast, so be sure to ask for a dark blonde gloss over your highlights to give it that sun-kissed dimension”

And don’t forget to follow-up with a protein treatment, like Joico K-PAK RevitaLuxe to keep your tresses in tip-top shape.">
